About us

Owner chef Satoshi Maruyama opened his own restaurant in 1996 after gaining experience at several Japanese restaurants. He and his team TORAYA have been awarded a Michelin star since 2012.

He has featured vegetables through growing vegetables by himself at small farm and picking up wild vegetables by himself at mountain.
For example, his signature dish “15 kinds of seasonal vegetables with broth”, you will be able to feel the energy of each vegetable. He wants every guest to enjoy the wonderful tastes and texture of seasonal vegetables. He never uses chemical seasoning, food additives and synthetic coloring. These are not necessary for him. Because it is enough if he uses the natural ingredients.

Try the one of his specialties "grilled eel" too. You will be satisfied its soft texture and the scent of eel grilled by charcoal. Of course the eel course is including not only eel, but also plenty of vegetables. We hope you enjoy the meal.

Our restaurant serve tasting menus only.
No a la carte all day.
We advise you to book at least a day in advance.
When booking your meal with us please let us know if you have any allergies or food requirements.
We serve one set menu for one person.
Please order the same set in the one party.
However, we will arrange something for your children, please ask.

Access

Located next to Maruyama Park and Hokkaido Jingu(Shirine) where you can enjoy a walk in the beautiful park before lunch or dinner.
Toraya is 10 minutes by taxi from Sapporo station, or a 3 minutes walk from Maruyama-Koen subway station.(The orange line)

Take Tozai Line(The orange line) bound for Miyanosawa.
Get off at Maruyama-Koen Station.
Take Exit 3. Cross the road then turn right we are on the left hand side. You will see TORAYA on dark yellow wall.

We don't have a private parking place. Please use the toll parking lot of neighborhood.

We have a counter, tables, and Tatami rooms.
The counter is available for 1 to 6 persons, tables are from 2 to 6 persons, the Tatami rooms are available for groups of 2 to 8 persons .

If accompanied with children, we would recommend the private room.
Tatami means a mat. It is a traditional style room. Take off your shoes and relax when you are in the Tatami room.
